Our focus on sub-mentoring derives from our accordance to “Learning Through Teaching”, an innovative teaching method which emphasizes that the best way to test one’s understanding of a subject is to have them teach it to someone else.
A study was carried out by Professor Heidi Elmendorf, who teaches at the prestigious Georgetown University, Washington D.C. in the essay “Learning through Teaching: A New Perspective on Entering a Discipline” which was published in 2006. The author discovered that through engaging students to teach, the student’s understanding of the subject matter improved greatly due to numerous factors:
i.Teaching allows assessment of the grasp of the subject matter.
Many times when a student is learning, they may think that they have fully understood the subject, but in fact have only grasped
the surface of it. The instructor is under the impression that the student has understood, without being able to fully assess the
level of understanding.
However, when the student proceeds to teach, it exposes the depth (or lack thereof) of understanding the student actually has on
the subject. This can then be corrected and improved upon, which reinforces the student’s understanding of the subject matter.
ii.Teaching brings about a sense of responsibility.
When the student teaches, it makes them accountable for another individual’s learning process. This motivates them to
learn and understand the subject matter more, which forces them to spend more time studying, which in turn makes them better
versed in the subject.
iii.Teaching puts fresh eyes on the subject matter.
Often whilst teaching, the teacher is confronted with a challenging question by the student - a question which gives the teacher no
choice but to look at the subject from a different perspective and find the answer, which again continues and improves
the learning process.
As you may observe, we at www.orangeroshan.com place a high priority on understanding our subject matter. Whilst currency trading appears to be a highly complicated financial instrument, the SRDC approach is a simple one, but one which requires a deep understanding - an understanding that can only evolve through a sub-mentoring system.
As a member of our community, you are not required to sub-mentor. However, it is an activity that is encouraged, due to our practice of “Learning Through Teaching”. Sub-mentors are awarded for their efforts with tools that will further help their trading success. Through sub-mentoring within our community, members find that their learning experience is enriched, as mutually beneficial relationships are developed between sub-mentors and mentees, who journey together throughout the path towards financial freedom.
